Safety First Stacking Rings

This toy takes the classic baby toy, stacking rings, and puts a modern spin on it by making all the pieces plush and textured. Toddler Play Tent

You can have your very own ball pit for indoor and outdoor play! This play tent has a tent on one end and a tunnel to connect the tent to a ball pit on the other end. One of the reasons this tent makes the list is that it’s open! This makes it easy for younger children, like 1 year olds, to play in the balls and grow into the tent to use the tunnel and play space.

Under the Sea Stacking Cups

Stacking cups are a great early childhood toy, as 1 year olds love to move toys and explore all sorts of things. These stacking cups have an under the sea theme with different animal shapes around the rim. Your little one can use this toy in the bath as well as during playtime, making them multi-purpose and twice as fun.

Nursery Horse Rocker

Every little girl needs her own horsey to ride! This Pottery Barn rocking horse is one of my favorites on the market. It is small making it easy for your one year old to get on and off. They’ve also got a selection of other animals if you’d like something more unique!

Pink Piglet Nursery Plush

This piggy is the softest plush toy from its head to its curly tail and it will make the perfect addition to any nursery. Your one year old little girl may be growing fast, but she will still love this snuggly toy.

Toys That Encourage New Skills Like Music, Walking, and More

Musical Turtle Toy

This toy is a great learning tool, as the simple structure, lights, and sounds work to help your child learn letters, numbers, and fun songs. The toy is shaped like a turtle with buttons throughout the shell. The top of the shell displays letters and numbers with lights around the outer edge and buttons on the turtle’s feet. This is an easily portable toy that’s great for entertaining and teaching.

As another toy with no detachable pieces this is a great toy for entertaining your 1 year old whether you’re waiting in line, in the car, or at dinner.

We are all about STEM toys, and there is no such thing as starting too early! This simple stacking toy will be perfect for your one year old and easy enough for her to figure it out all on her own.

Fat Brain Toys Dimpl

It is always funny to me how easy it is to entertain little ones. They seem to think the more simple the better! The Dimpl is a great example of this as it is just five silicone bubbles they can pop in and out.

Best First Dolls and Dress Up Sets for Your 1 Year Old Girl

VTech Pretty Party Playset

This is definitely one of the best toys for 1 year old girls as all our little testers seemed to love it. Many little girls like to play pretend and dress up, and this party playset is a great beginner toy. This toy has a pink tray where the cups, snacks, and teapot sit. When your little one tips the pitcher to pretend to pour lemonade it will sing a variety of songs.

Baby Stella Soft First Baby Doll

Another way little girls like to play pretend is with baby dolls. This doll is soft and cuddly, much like stuffed animals and teddy bears. She comes with a magnetic pacifier and a removable fabric outfit and diaper. This is a fun introduction into playing with dolls for a 1 year old who shows interest.

Pink Ruffle Gingham Apron

Your little girl is still far too young to help you in the kitchen, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have her own adorable apron!

Baby GUND Princess Castle Stuffed Plush Playset

This plush doll set is absolutely adorable and perfectly age-appropriate for your one year old! The wand squeaks and the doll crinkles, plus your baby will love checking themselves out in the little wand.

My Top 10 Baby Must-Haves from Walmart

1) Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced Formula Dispenser

Walmart breastfeeding essentials

Special: Free $50 eGift Card with Purchase

This is definitely one of the coolest baby gadget inventions I have seen in years. It is the most advanced (and easiest) way to make a warm, formula bottle instantly. There is no measuring or mixing on your part, and you tell it exactly how many ounces to make along with the choice of three temperature settings. If you are a breastfeeding mama, this is still worth having around for the occasional bottle or when you leave your little one with a babysitter.

2) Kiinde Kozii Breast Milk and Bottle Warmer

Special: Rolled Back from $69.99 to $41.77

My sister-in-law used this bottle warmer for her first (who she breastfed and pumped for over a year!) and is using it again for her second. It is easy to use and safe. At such a huge markdown from Walmart in honor of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, this bottle warmer can’t be beaten. Even if you plan on exclusively breastfeeding in the beginning, it is always nice to have a bottle warmer around in case you end up pumping and bottle feeding. Fed is best and whatever way you nourish your baby is absolutely okay.

3) Boppy Original Nursing Pillow and Positioner – Midnight Garden

Special: $5 Gift Card with Boppy Purchase & this print is only available at Walmart!

You will want a Boppy, trust me. Breastfeeding is exhausting and having a pillow to help support the baby makes a world of difference. Plus, they come in handy to set your newborn in while you catch up on Netflix or write out your grocery list. As your baby grows, they can be used for tummy time or to help support them sitting up. Walmart has a huge selection of covers to check out in all patterns and colors, I just happen to absolutely adore Midnight Garden which I have linked above.

Special: Rolled Back from $19.98 to $12.49

Of course, you should feel no shame breastfeeding in public and you should do so in whatever way is most comfortable for you. However, if you are looking for an easy way to cover up I would definitely recommend this nursing infinity scarf. It can be configured in many different ways and is stylish enough to wear all day long.

5) Evenflo Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump

Special: Free $25 eGift Card with Purchase

This pump is a great choice if you will have every day pumping needs. It is hospital strength and recommended by the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. The Evenflo is also very quiet if you are looking to be discreet (comes in handy at work) and has multiple power options so you can always find a spot to plug it in. It will maximize your milk expression and keep you comfortable!

6) Nanobebe Newborn Gift Set

Special: Free $25 eGift Card with Purchase

Nanobebe bottles are fairly new to the baby scene, but they are quickly becoming a favorite of many parents. Because of the bottle’s shape and nipple, they are a great option for breastfed babies. This set comes with everything you need to get started with bottles; bottles, a warmer, a drying rack, a steam sterilizer, and even a couple pacifiers as a bonus. Plus, you get a $25 eGift Card? What a steal!

7) Boon Nursh Silicone Baby Bottle Grass Gift Bundle

Walmart breastfeeding essentials

Parenting comes with so much cleaning, from wiping butts to laundry to dishes. Make bottle cleaning and sterilizing a little easier on yourself by getting organized with this cute bottle and drying rack combo. The bottles are made with 100% silicone and modeled after mom, like the Nanobebe’s above. The drying rack is cute enough to leave sitting out on your counter and comes with a bottle brush.

8) The Cutest Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Tee

Walmart breastfeeding essentials

Special: Reduced price from $14.94 to $12.70

While you don’t always have to be in maternity or nursing clothes, it is nice to have a few cute options in your closet just in case. This tee is both cute, comfy, and functional for breastfeeding.

9) Medela Pump In Style Advanced Double Electric Breast Pump with On-The-Go Tote

Walmart breastfeeding essentials

Special: Free $50 Giftcard with Purchase

I loved my Medela Pump and think that every breastfeeding mom should have the chance to try out a high-quality pump because it really does make a difference. This set comes with the double electric breast pump and a tote that will make it easy to bring along with you when you’re out and about.

10) Delta Children Paris Upholstered Glider

Last but certainly not least, Walmart has an amazing deal on one of our favorite gliders here at Rookie Moms. You can get the Delta Children Paris Upholstered Glider for just $199. Your glider is going to be a chair you spend a lot of time in and probably fall asleep once or twice in as well, so you want to make sure it is comfy. Sunscreen and Your Baby [When It’s Safe & Our Faves]

A question many new moms have is when is it safe for their baby to wear sunscreen? This post will answer all questions about sunscreen and your baby. We will also discuss other ways you can protect your baby from the sun and a review of mineral-based sunscreens for your little one.

Protecting Your Baby from the Sun Before Sunscreen

The general consensus by health professionals is to wait until your baby is 6 months old before using sunscreen. Babies under 6 months have very fragile skin and limiting any sun exposure is best at this age. Young babies also tend to rub their eyes and put their hands in their mouth often. Until babies are 6 months of age they should be kept out of direct sunlight in a heavily shaded area, under an umbrella or under the canopy of a stroller. Always remember to allow for airflow when covering a car seat or stroller as the temperature can rise quickly.

Try to limit your baby’s time in the sun between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm as this is when the sun’s rays are the strongest. When enjoying time outside it is important to:

  • Cover as much of your child in clothing that is a tight weave or has a UPF value (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of 40 or above.
  • Make sure they are wearing a hat that covers as much of their face, neck, and ears as possible.
  • Use UV protective sunglasses.
  • Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above to all skin not covered by clothing.
  • Use a chapstick with an SPF of 30 or above.
  • Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes prior to sun exposure.
  • Remember to re-apply sunscreen according to the directions on the bottle or after swimming or heavy perspiration.

sunscreen and your baby

You want to avoid sunburns at all costs and if your child us under a year old they should be assessed by a doctor. A sunburn can be a medical emergency for a young baby.

Choosing the Right Type of Sunscreen

Sunscreen is our skin’s last line of defense. Choosing the right sunscreen for your baby can feel overwhelming. The two main types of sunscreen are mineral-based and chemical-based. In recent years there have been some concerns about oxybenzone, avobenzone and retinyl palmitate and their possible link to hormone disruption and skin cancer. The research is somewhat divided. Your best bet is to check the ingredient list and avoid products that contain these ingredients if you are concerned.

All About Mineral Sunscreen and Your Baby

Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and titanium oxide to form a protective barrier from the sun. They tend to be a bit thicker and chalkier but the newer versions have come a long way. Our family has moved to go using mineral sunscreens and have tried out Thinkbaby sunscreen and Saje Sunguard.

Saje Sunguard SPF 30

sunscreen and your baby

I used Saje Sunguard SPF 30 for a day spent at a spray park, tubing and playing at a playground. It is a bit thick so you need to ensure it is evenly spread but the white appearance absorbs quickly. It smells great and it protected my girls’ skin really well.

Thinkbaby Sunscreen

Thinkbaby is rated an SPF 50+. I love the fruity smell of this sunscreen and it spreads better than most mineral sunscreens we have tried. It is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes requiring less frequent application while playing in the water. It provided exceptional protection for a day spent running in and out of sprinklers and the pool. I also really love Thinkbaby’s body & face sunscreen stick (hyperlink : ) and always keep one in my diaper bag for impromptu park stops. It is conveniently sized, spreads easily and provides SPF 30 protection.

Wrapping Up

I definitely recommend both Saje and thinkbaby sunscreens. When choosing a sunscreen for your baby or child check the ingredients, ensure it has an SPF of 30 or greater, and ensure it is water-resistant if you plan to spend time in the water. Have fun in the sun!
